How to Care for Your At Wicks End JIC Candle

 So you have finally taken the plunge and ordered one of our fantastic 100% soy candles.  You are so excited to open that box and starting burning it so you can get to your piece of jewelry inside the candle.  Yet how do you take care of it?

Upon arrival, make sure to smell the scent and take in the aroma!

Thoroughly inspect your glass jar for imperfections, cracks, or damage caused during shipping.  If you believe your candle to be damaged, please notify us within 10 business days from the USPS "Delivered" date.  PLEASE NOTE:  Candles that have been lit will not be replaced.

Before lighting, allow your candle to adjust to room temperature to recover from changes in climate that may have occurred during shipping.  Be sure to review your warning label on the bottom of the candle!

Trim the wick to 1/4 of an inch.  Keep the candle free of any foreign materials, including matches and wick trimmings.  Burn candle on a level, fire resistant surface in an open, well-ventilated area.  Keep away from drafts, vibrations, or anything that may catch fire.  Keep out of reach of children and pets.  Never leave a candle unattended.  

Do not burn the candle for more than four hours at a time.  Please allow an even melt pool to develop before extinguishing the flame.  

When re-lighting, be sure to trim the wick to a proper length and clean the wick of any carbon deposits.  These deposits can cause the flame to crack, smoke, or pop.

Are Candle Trimmers Really Necessary?   The first burn of a candle is the key to providing the proper even burn for prolonging the life of the candle. The burn should be long enough to create a melt pool that covers the top of the candle to the edge of the glass. The amount of time this takes depends on the size of the candle, but it is usually about 1-3 hours. The wick should always be trimmed to about 1/4 inch with a candle trimmer before each use to prevent the candle from smoking.
